DIALEKTIKA KUNINGAN — As an effort to maintain ecosystem balance and maximize tourism potential, the elected Regent of Kuningan, Dr. H. Dian Rachmat Yanuar, along with Dandim 0615/Kuningan, Lt. Col. Arh Kiki Aji Wiryawan, and elements of the community, have embarked on a mission to clean up the water hyacinth covering 30 hectares of Darma Reservoir.

This collaborative effort, using traditional tools and excavators, marks a crucial step towards transforming Darma Reservoir into an international premier tourism destination.

Kuningan Regent and Dandim Dive In

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, the elected Regent of Kuningan, Dr. H. Dian Rachmat Yanuar, along with Dandim 0615/Kuningan, Lt. Col. Arh Kiki Aji Wiryawan, elements of the Muspika of Darma Subdistrict, TNI-Polri members, Dishub, Satpol PP, BBWS, BNPB, related OPDs, environmental care communities, fishermen, and residents of Jagara Village, joined hands to clean up the water hyacinth in Darma Reservoir, Jagara Village, Darma Subdistrict, Kuningan Regency, West Java.

“This work is very important to maintain environmental sustainability,” said Bupati Dian.

This joint effort not only utilized traditional tools but also received assistance from the DPUTR excavator to lift the water hyacinth plants that were covering the Darma Reservoir water area. “The use of excavators greatly helps to speed up the cleaning process,” said Dandim Lt. Col. Kiki Aji Wiryawan.

Darma Reservoir Water Hyacinth Cleanup

Reportedly, 30 hectares of Darma Reservoir water area is now covered with water hyacinth, drawing attention for its cleanup.

The combined team, including the Regent and Dandim, directly used boats to explore the spread of water hyacinth. The water hyacinth heaps have started to move to the reservoir edge. “This step is an effort to increase collective awareness in addressing water hyacinth holistically,” said Regent Dian.

Bupati Kuningan Dian Rachmat Yanuar explained that the water hyacinth cleanup is a form of eco green or environmental balance awareness. If not addressed, it will have a negative impact on the aquatic ecosystem and other activities.

“We hope to maximize the tourism potential in Darma Subdistrict. Around Darma Reservoir, there are 9 villages with potential. Let’s develop them into international tourism destinations,” he added.

Sustainable Joint Effort

Dandim 0615/Kuningan, Kiki Aji Wiryawan mentioned that the water hyacinth cleanup has been ongoing for a week. However, due to the rapid growth of water hyacinth and limited equipment, the cleanup is not yet maximal.

“The water hyacinth lifted is about 450 cubic meters or equivalent to 90 trucks. We need additional equipment and trucks to transport it,” he explained. Kiki hopes that the water hyacinth cleanup will become a sustainable and programmed activity.

Stakeholder Support: Synergy for Ecosystem Balance

Head of Jagara Village, Umar Hidayat, said the water hyacinth cleanup was carried out with the stakeholders of the Kuningan Regency government. The cleanup target can be completed within 5 days with the support of heavy equipment, dump trucks, and amphibians from the River Basin Organization (BWS).

“The water area of Darma Reservoir is about 270 hectares, 30 hectares of which are covered with water hyacinth,” he said.

“All parties need to increase their awareness of the surrounding environment,” he added.

This joint effort is a tangible example of the synergy between the government, TNI-Polri, and the community in maintaining ecosystem balance.

The water hyacinth cleanup is expected to have a positive impact on the environment and open up wider tourism opportunities in Darma Subdistrict.

“We are optimistic that this joint effort will bring positive changes,” exclaimed Bupati Kuningan.

“Let’s wait for the results of this effort and see how the improvement of Darma Reservoir will inspire other regions,” Dian Rachmat Yannuar concluded.***
